Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy is Bahrain's second UNESCO World Heritage Site. The path runs about 3.5 kilometres through historic Muharraq, linking restored merchant houses, shops and warehouses with three oyster beds offshore and Bu Maher Fort at the southern tip.

Visitors can start from either main visitor centre and follow the pearl shaped streetlights that mark the route. The buildings open at different times, so the path works as a walk with stops rather than a single museum visit.

Muharraq is the old capital and the walk passes through working neighbourhoods. Go slowly, stop for coffee and treat the route as a way into the city rather than a checklist.
