Jumeirah Burj Al Arab

The sail shaped hotel on its own island off Jumeirah Beach. Dubai's best known building and still a serious place to stay.

Jumeirah, Dubai · UAE · Hotels

Burj Al Arab opened in 1999 on a man made island a short causeway off Jumeirah Beach and has defined the Dubai skyline ever since. Its sail shape was drawn from the city's seafaring past and the building has become shorthand for Dubai itself.

Jumeirah's official page describes a private beach and dining across the hotel. French architect Tristan Auer is leading a restoration that keeps the silhouette and most of the original decor, from gold leaf to Statuario marble, while updating comfort and technology. The approach is renewal rather than reinvention.

It suits travellers who want the landmark itself as the stay. For a quieter beach or a family resort feel, the neighbouring Jumeirah properties along the same stretch of coast are the more practical choice.
