Best time to visit Oman: Muscat, mountains and Salalah
Visit northern Oman from October to April for easy outdoor days. Choose June to September when Salalah's green Khareef is the reason for your trip.

Oman has two headline seasons that should not be confused. The north opens up in winter. The far south turns green during the Arabian summer.
Your ideal date depends on whether the photograph in your head shows a Muscat beach a mountain ridge or a misty Salalah hillside. Trying to capture all three at their seasonal best in one trip is rarely realistic.
The short answer
October to April is the best period for a classic northern Oman trip through Muscat the wadis desert and mountains. Salalah follows another calendar: Khareef runs from roughly mid-June to September and brings cloud mist and green landscapes to Dhofar. Summer in Muscat is hot while Jabal Akhdar and Jabal Shams remain cooler than the lowlands.

Temperatures settle and the country becomes easier to explore outdoors. November gives a particularly useful balance for swimming hiking and city time.
The trade-off: Wadi conditions can change after rain. Follow local warnings and never enter flowing water during unsafe weather.
December to February: Best overall for the north
Best for: Camping hiking culture and first visits
Milder drier weather supports long days outside. Muscat feels comfortable and desert nights become part of the experience.
The trade-off: Mountains and desert camps can be cold after dark. Pack layers and confirm road access for high-altitude stays.
March and April: Best for warm water and mountains
Best for: Wadis coastal stays and spring scenery
Days become warmer without the full force of summer. April can coincide with Jabal Akhdar's rose season though timing varies.
The trade-off: Heat builds quickly in exposed lowlands. Start hikes early and check local flowering conditions before travelling for them.
Mid-June to September: Best for Salalah Khareef
Best for: Dhofar greenery mist and a cool regional escape
Official Oman guidance describes Khareef as the time when southern Oman becomes milder and green. Cloud and drizzle create a landscape unlike northern Oman.
The trade-off: It is a popular domestic and GCC travel period. Fog can reduce visibility and Muscat remains very hot.
May to August in northern Oman: Best only for a focused plan
Best for: Mountain resorts indoor rest and short early outings
Jabal Akhdar and Jabal Shams are cooler than the lowlands. A high-altitude stay can work when the hotel and landscape are the main priorities.
The trade-off: Lowland temperatures are intense. Long wadi hikes city walks and desert camping belong in a cooler season.
